Important New Mobile Roaming Regulations

The big news in the business mobile world this week is the extension of the EU’s Mobile Roaming Regulations. On the 1st July this important legislation comes into effect and it could dramatically reduce your business mobile data roaming charges.

The existing Mobile Roaming Regulations only cover the provision of voice calls but at the start of July this will all change and data charges will also be subject to the same sort of capping procedures as voice calls. This means you will have far less “bill fear” when out of the UK and using maps, email or cloud based technologies.

Commission Vice President Neelie Kroes said: “By putting price caps on data we have created a roaming market for the smart phone generation. More than that, we have ended the rip-offs familiar to anyone who has used a mobile phone while travelling abroad. I am pleased that year after year the European Union is putting money back in the pockets of citizens.”
